Correction: Wing damage affects flight kinematics but not flower tracking performance in hummingbird hawkmoths

In J. Exp. Biol. (2021) 224, jeb236240 (doi:10.1242/jeb.236240), angular velocity of the wings was calculated as the product of wing stroke amplitude and wing beat frequency:(1)as stated in the Materials and Methods and in the respective figure legends where the corresponding values are reported (Figs 2C and 3C,F).However, this is not what is typically defined as wing stroke velocity/angular velocity of the wing, which would be calculated as:(2)Thus, the reported values could be misleading to readers who assume that the wing stroke velocity reported was obtained with the typical calculation. Therefore, below we provide updated versions of Figs 2C and 3C,F, with wing angular velocity calculated as in Eqn 2.The authors apologise to the readers for any inconvenience this may have caused. No other calculations or analyses in the study are affected by this correction, and nor are the source data. Additionally, none of the conclusions of the study are impacted, as the corrected formula for wing stroke velocity applies linearly to the respective data and therefore does not change the relative relationship between conditions that was tested in the study.

Abstract

In J. Exp. Biol. No other calculations or analyses in the study are affected by this correction, and nor are the source data. Additionally, none of the conclusions of the study are impacted, as the corrected formula for wing stroke velocity applies linearly to the respective data and therefore does not change the relative relationship between conditions that was tested in the study.
