ALIMENTO DEL FUTURO PARA LA HUMANIDAD QUE VENDRÁ. EL CASO DEL NYPTA (DISTICHLIS PALMERI)

Based on the case of the wild wheat Distichlis palmeri, identified by geneticists and biotechnology specialists as a potential food of the future due to its nutritional properties and its ability to grow in salt water and high temperatures, the objective of this article is to reflect on the implications of imagining and acting based on an abstract humanity that will require food in that supposed future. From a multidisciplinary approach based on anthropological and historical research among the Cucap of Mexicali and the Rarmuri of Chihuahua, both in Mexico, it is argued, on the one hand, that the collective to which such a future humanity refers is a relationship that must be built rather than a premise. On the other hand, the idea of a "future" temporality must be revisited based on the experiences of ecocide and genocide that Amerindian peoples have endured for five centuries. From these experiences, they can affirm that they know the end of the world and, consequently, inhabit presents and not dystopian futures where food sovereignty and autonomy are an ancestral struggle.Throughout the article, a dialogue is established, by contrast and to define a certain imaginary about food and humanity of the future, with some science fiction film productions.
