Teaching Pinter in the UK
ABSTRACT The Workshop Theater at the University of Leeds prioritized teaching theater through practice, emphasizing the embodiment of theoretical positions through enactment. This approach, developed within a unique single honors English Literature and Theater Studies program, aimed to bridge intellectual understanding of dramatic literature with practical engagement in a theater space. The author of this article, who taught a module focussing on the works of Harold Pinter, Samuel Beckett, and Sarah Kane, encouraged students to explore the connections between these playwrights’ works, examining themes, theatrical structures, and audience engagement.
