Time Efficiency Gains from Bike-Metro Integration: Improving Accessibility and Urban Mobility in Quito

This study analyzes the potential impact of integrating bicycles with the Quito Metro transport system to address connectivity barriers and improve urban mobility. Based on data from surveys carried out on students of the Central University, it was identified that a significant percentage of users face difficulties in accessing metro stations due to the lack of direct connections with other transport systems. In addition, the time savings by complementing access to the metro with bicycles were evaluated, suggesting that stations such as Quitumbe and Morán Valverde could particularly benefit from this strategy. Recommendations include the implementation of cycling infrastructure, awareness campaigns and integrated fare policies to maximise adoption of the system
