Por una Historia Ambiental: las relaciones socio-ambientales en cuentos populares tardomedievales eslavos y escandinavos
The work presented here shows a fragment conceived within the final thesis of a degree course. In this sense, it shows the predominance of the comparative method, its sources and part of its conclusions. We maintain that natural conditions are decisive for social conceptions. The sources we will recover will be the folk tales Morozko and part of the Kalevala. The elements of each story will be analyzed, taking into account Environmental History and comparative history. The intention of this article is to account for the relationship between natural conditions and social and wonderful values in the Russian folk tale Morozko (compiled by Afanasiev) and in the Kalevala, (compiled by Lnnrot in Finland). We understand by natural conditions the specificity of the regions that belong to the Arctic Circle. And we understand, among all the social and wonderful values, that the predominant one found in the sources is the conception about death-specifically death caused by cold-.The relationship established between natural conditions and social values will be accompanied by a comparative analysis between the two sources set in their respective regions. As well as some historiographical reflections on the role of Environmental History. We will conclude by stating that the fear of death from cold is conditioned by the natural characteristics given by belonging to the Arctic Circle. This geographical, climatic and geomorphological dimension is what leads us to differentiate, within the final degree project, social and marvelous conceptions from the rest of Europe
