Optimized Demultiplexer with Fault and Heat Analyses for Nanocommunication Systems
At the ultrananoscale regime, the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) faces numerous issues. A promising technology for the design of circuits at the nanoscale level is quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA). It offers advantages, such as lower power dissipation, optimal functionality, higher switching speed, and elevated performance. In communication system, a demultiplexer at the receiver end is crucial to separate the multiplexed signal in initial form. By making the use of the QCA technology, an optimal, single layer, single phase, fault-tolerant 1 : 2 unit demultiplexer is proposed in the paper. The proposed demultiplexer uses only 13 QCA cells and a single clock. The proposed 1 : 2 demultiplexer utilises a lesser area occupied by the layout of the design. With improvement in the cell count and the cost of the design by 23.53 and 39.53%, respectively in comparison with the best-reported design, the proposed design proves its effectiveness. The proposed 1 : 2 unit demultiplexer provides 85.71% fault-tolerant design against the single cell missing defect. The QCA Designer-E and the QCA Pro tools are employed to estimate the energy dissipation. In comparison with the best-reported existing design, the dissipated energy in total for the proposed design is reduced by 34.21% at 0.5 kink energy level.
