OurMED D5.3 Report on Enabling Factors and Potential Barriers Toward the Implementation of NbS. Version 1.2
Deliverable 5.3 (D5.3) summarises the activities carried out under Task 5.3, “Analysis of enabling factors and potential barriers toward the implementation of NbS” It presents the methodological approach adopted across selected demo sites to identify, evaluate, and interpret the conditions that either facilitate or hinder the effective implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS). Building on the established common problem identification and the understanding that multi-stakeholder collaboration and knowledge co-creation are essential for developing a shared understanding of challenges and tailoring NbS to site-specific societal needs, our NbS mapping methodology has been designed to reflect the diverse contexts of the selected OurMED demo sites, as outlined in Deliverables D5.1 and D5.2.Deliverable D5.3 represents a step forward in assessing the effectiveness of our framework, either directly or indirectly. To this end, the report draws primarily on lessons learned from three examples: (i) the Albufera Lake constructed wetlands and their replicability in other locations around the lake; (ii) the upscaling feasibility guidelines of the Sebou Water Fund for application in other regions with similar conditions across the Mediterranean; and (iii) feedback from the Konya demo sites, building on the prior cataloguing of NbS solutions developed in Deliverables D5.1 and D5.2, as well as insights gathered through the stakeholder workshops organised under WP3.
