The influence of geometric parameters of the cutting tool on the accuracy indicators when sawing with band saws

mproving sawing accuracy on band saw machines is an important task for the sawmill industry, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. Kerf waviness leads to significant wood losses during subsequent mechanical processing, which can be several times higher than the losses from the kerf width itself. Current standards do not account for this parameter, which necessitates the development of new technical solutions. To improve the accuracy of the sawing process and reduce kerf waviness when cutting round timber by optimizing the geometric parameters of the band saw teeth. An experimental study was conducted on the influence of band saw tooth geometry on the sawing accuracy of pine logs using the "Spectr 70" horizontal band saw machine. A design of an experimental saw with an optimized tooth profile was developed. It was found that the degree of waviness increases as the cut progresses through the log and as the tool becomes dull. The use of the experimental saw reduces kerf waviness by 7-10% and decreases wood losses during subsequent processing. The results of the work can be used to improve the efficiency of sawlog processing on small-sized sawmill equipment.
