Highly Active Pt/Fe 3 O 4 Catalyst Enhances the CO Oxidation Performance in the Presence of SO 2 and CO 2
Developing efficient, stable, and inexpensive catalysts for the CO oxidation within a wide temperature window in the presence of SO2 and CO2 is indispensable for CO emissions reduction in industrial processes. Herein, we describe the design and synthesis of the single atom Pt catalyst with the structure of Pt–O–Fe to protect Pt sites and modulate the oxygen activation capacity. The Pt1 sites strongly interacts with Fe to form the structure of Pt–O–Fe, enhancing the ability of Fe sites to bind with SO2 and preventing the formation of stable sulfuric acid platinum species. Besides, the introduction of Pt enhances the activation ability of O2 on Fe species. This synergistic interaction between Pt and Fe sites ensures the lifetime of Pt catalysts under SO2 conditions, meeting the requirements of practical industrial conditions with the presence of CO2 and SO2. The optimal Pt/Fe3O4–CP catalyst can achieve 100% CO conversion under a temperature range of 90–300 °C in the presence of SO2 and CO2 and remains catalytically stable during 350 h testing at 300 °C. This work will give a novel approach to the design of highly efficient catalysts for CO emissions reduction in industrial processes at the presence of SO2 and CO2.
