Evaluation of Suitability of Pixhawk System as Avionics for Rockets

Recently, flight control computers (FCCs) for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been rapidly developed through various open source projects. In this study, one of the FCCs, the Pixhawk system, was applied to rocket avionics. This was inspired by the similarity between the FCC of UAVs and rocket avionics.First, the software and hardware characteristics of the Pixhawk system were identified. Then, the stability of the Pixhawk system was verified in three aspects: altitude, horizontal position, and inertial measurement through a test launch. As a result, the Pixhawk system was verified to determine whether it is suitable for rocket avionics or not, and future research utilizing the Pixhawk is proposed.
