Safety Control of TransformerLess Partial Voltage DC-DC Converter for Hydrogen production

The TransformerLess Partial Voltage Converter (TLPVC) is a promising solution, significantly improving Silicon Capacity Utilization Index (SCUI). This advantage is particularly valuable for controlling electrochemical sources, such as pairs of electrolysers, especially as this conversion structure is highly scalable and can adapt to a large number of loads arranged in pairs. The converter’s characteristics enable current balancing using a single duty cycle. However, as electrolyser parameters change over time—due to aging, for instance—current imbalances may occur, potentially exceeding the reference value. This article proposes a nonlinear safe control strategy that inherently limits currents despite variations in electrolyser characteristics while maintaining balance at the capacitive midpoint. The study is conducted through simulations, with PLECS® software.
