Abstract. With the rapid urbanization and the emergence of Smart Cities, efficient energy management has become a critical challenge. Traditional energy monitoring systems often suffer from high latency, lack of real-time visualization, and poor scalability. This paper proposes a comprehensive IoT-based real-time energy management system designed to monitor and optimize urban power consumption. The proposed architecture leverages an event-driven model, integrating hardware sensors with a high-performance web platform. The backend is developed using Node.js and Socket.io to ensure low-latency bidirectional communication, while the frontend is built with React for responsive, real-time data visualization. The system collects data from IoT nodes, processes it through a centralized server, and provides instantaneous feedback to users via an interactive dashboard. Experimental results demonstrate that the integration of WebSockets and React-based rendering significantly reduces data propagation delay compared to traditional HTTP-based polling methods. The system provides a scalable solution for city administrators to monitor power grids, detect anomalies, and reduce overall energy waste, contributing to the sustainability of smart urban environments.
