Survey: Spirituals in the Voice Studio - 2014

The call below was addressed to musicians who were online participants on several discussion lists: "In order to assess the experiences musicians have had with Negro spirituals set for solo vocal performance, we ask voice students, teachers/coaches, professional singers, accompanists, and other musicians who have studied vocal music privately, whether or not they have had extensive experience with spirituals, to complete this Spirituals in the Voice Studio survey. The survey will take approximately 10 to 30 minutes to complete, depending upon the type and depth of responses you give. Should you wish to stop along the way and complete the survey before its closing period ends, please be sure to open the survey using the same computer you used to start the survey. Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. There are no foreseeable risks associated with this project. However, if you feel uncomfortable answering any questions, you can discontinue the survey at any point. Your survey responses will be strictly confidential and data from this research will be reported only in the aggregate. If you have questions at any time about the survey or the procedures, please contact Randye Jones at [email protected]." The survey was run between August 14 and October 1, 2014. Once the survey deadline passed, results were gathered; however, those results were not analyzed. This document reflects the responses submitted.
