Fishermen's Guardian: A Unified Application for Safety and Regulatory Compliance

Abstract: The fishing industry often suffers fromlack of information and safety protocols, which putfishermen in a difficult spot risking them overweather fluctuations and even unintentionalcrossing of maritime borders. The study presentsFisherman’s guardian, a mobile application built onReact Native to improve safety and compliance atsea. The whole system revolves around a weatherwatchdog and GPS-based geofencing that assists ingiving instant alerts. Fishermen log in using asecure authentication method supported by aMySQL database that is responsible for personaluse and data management, so to speak. Weatherupdates are obtained from third-party APIs toprovide precise predictions whereas geofencingalgorithm keeps on monitoring boats’ locationsagainst the defined maritime limits. When a limit isapproached or crossed, the app sends immediatealerts using visual means and notifications. Theproposed solution combines safe user management, weather intelligence, and boundary alertmechanisms into a single mobile platform thusreducing the safety risks, minimizing the legalviolations, and providing the fishermen with anaccessible, and user-friendly tool. The experimentalvalidation proves the alert system’s effectivenessand weather updates’ reliability while showcasingthe app’s capacity of becoming a significantcontributor to the marine safety and regulatorycompliance of the coastal communities.
