Microstructure and wear resistance of in-situ synthesized TiC/TiB 2 reinforced iron-based composite laser cladded coating

Abstract In situ synthesized TiC/TiB 2 reinforced Fe-based composite coatings were prepared on the surface of Cr12MoV steel by adding different amounts of TiFe and BC 4 powders using laser cladding method. The phase composition, microstructure, hardness, and wear resistance of composite coatings with different TiC/TiB 2 contents were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), hardness tester, and wear tester, and the evolution process of the melt pool was elucidated. The research results show that compared with Fe901 laser cladding coating, the microhardness and wear resistance of Fe-based composite coating containing TiC/TiB 2 are significantly improved. When the design content of TiC/TiB 2 is 30 wt.%, the hardness of the composite coating is the highest, reaching 970.5 H V, and the wear resistance is the best. Compared with the Fe901 coating, the wear resistance is improved by 217 %.
