First report of Phytophthora heterospora causing black rot disease on the orchid Hoffmannseggella milleri in Brazil
the pseudobulbs on five healthy seedlings. The first symptoms of black rot disease appeared five days after inoculation, and the seedlings were completely necrotic after two weeks. The pathogen was re-isolated and identified as P. heterospora using morphological and molecular analyses. This is the first report of the genus Phytophthora causing black rot disease on H. milleri, which is relevant for management strategies of diseases affecting nursery orchids.
