Metal Halide Perovskite Superlattices: Progress and Challenges Ahead
Metal halide perovskite (MHP) superlattices (SLs) are emerging as a versatile class of artificial solids to unify the tunable quantum properties of discrete low-dimensional MHPs with collective interactions. They provide an exceptional platform to manifest quantum mechanical phenomena on a macroscopic scale. This Perspective summarizes recent advances in MHP SLs with a focus on the collective interplay among structural, electrical, and optical dynamics and the emergence of complex many-body phenomena. Further, we draw analogies with various classes of SLs to highlight underexplored research avenues to envision future developments. By merging insights from materials design that enable photophysical engineering, we outline how MHP SLs represent a new class of quantum materials for applications in photonics, phononics, optoelectronics, and beyond.
