Predicting the Aging Process of Plastic-Bonded HMX Using a Mathematical Model of Slow Decomposition Kinetics

This paper presents an approach for determining the degree of decomposition of plastic-bonded HMX at various ambient temperatures. A methodology is proposed, aimed at identifying the temperature-time conditions for the accelerated aging of plastic-bonded HMX, as well as establishing its guaranteed storage and service life. Our calculations are based on a kinetic model of the slow decomposition of the studied high explosive, constructed using the heat release data obtained by differential scanning calorimetry. The application of this model enables the assessment of the storage and service life of high explosives using the degree of decomposition as a key parameter.

Abstract

This paper presents an approach for determining the degree of decomposition of plastic-bonded HMX at various ambient temperatures. A methodology is proposed, aimed at identifying the temperature-time conditions for the accelerated aging of plastic-bonded HMX, as well as establishing its guaranteed storage and service life. Our calculations are based on a kinetic model of the slow decomposition of the studied high explosive, constructed using the heat release data obtained by differential scanning calorimetry. The application of this model enables the assessment of the storage and service life of high explosives using the degree of decomposition as a key parameter.
