Defective TiO <i>x</i> spontaneously triggers the hydrogenation activity of silver

The reactive metal-support interaction (RMSI) between Ag and defective TiO<i>x</i> spontaneously triggers the selective silver-catalyzed hydrogenation of dimethyl oxalate to methyl glycolate, enabling a >5-fold increase in TOF without prereduction. Importantly, TiO<i>x</i> confers remarkable oxidation resistance to the metallic Ag phase.

Abstract

The reactive metal-support interaction (RMSI) between Ag and defective TiO<i>x</i> spontaneously triggers the selective silver-catalyzed hydrogenation of dimethyl oxalate to methyl glycolate, enabling a >5-fold increase in TOF without prereduction. Importantly, TiO<i>x</i> confers remarkable oxidation resistance to the metallic Ag phase.
