Kinetic Aspects of High-Temperature Transformations of Azido-Acetylenic Derivatives of s-Triazine

We have studied macrokinetic aspects of high-temperature transformations of a series of s‑triazine derivatives containing azide, propynyloxy, and propynylamino functional groups. The results demonstrate that these compounds are capable of a self-propagating high-temperature transformation (combustion) in the absence of an external oxidant. The linear rates of combustion in nitrogen are proportional to the enthalpies of formation of the corresponding s-triazine derivatives. The diazide derivatives have the highest combustion rates, and the compounds containing three acetylene groups have the lowest combustion rates. Thermal decomposition of the azido-acetylenic derivatives of s-triazine has been studied by thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry. Thermal analysis has shown that the compound containing three propynylamino groups is the most stable in the series of samples studied and that the diazide derivatives of s-triazine have the lowest stability.
