Electrical Properties of Manganin at High Dynamic Loading Pressures and Temperatures

The resistivity of manganin has been studied as a function of volume and temperature under stepwise shock compression conditions in the pressure range 5–70 GPa and temperature range 300–1000 K. The electrical resistance of manganin samples has been measured under dynamic loading by one-dimensional plane shock waves. We have derived a thermal and a caloric equation of state of manganin, which have been used to reconstruct the dependence of resistivity on volume and temperature for shock-compressed manganin. Assuming that the resistivity of the metal is reversible, we formulated a semiempirical model for the variation in the resistivity of manganin during compression and unloading, including hysteresis of a manganin sensor.
