Algorithm for Estimating Residual Stresses in Workpieces during Cutting Using the Finite Element Analysis Method
An approach to assigning rational machining modes for workpieces, based on the assessment of residual stresses, is considered. The advantages of the finite element modeling method for residual stresses arising during the cutting process are analyzed. The choice of the Johnson–Cook model, which describes the material deformation processes during machining, is substantiated. An analysis of the influence of technological parameters such as turning modes and the geometric parameters of a turning tool on the magnitude of residual stresses is carried out. An algorithm based on the finite element method, which allows for the assessment of residual stresses arising in workpieces during their turning, is presented.
