Effects of continuous extrusion speed on microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-4.8Cu-0.45Mn-0.19Cd-0.18Ti-0.17Zr-0.14V alloy wires
This study investigated the influence of continuous extrusion speed on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-4.8Cu-0.45Mn-0.19Cd-0.18Ti-0.17Zr-0.14V alloy wires. By modulating the extrusion speed, the coupled effects of deformation temperature and strain rate on grain structure, dynamic recrystallization (DRX), and texture evolution were examined. The results indicate that as extrusion speed increases, grain size initially decreases and then elevates, with optimal grain refinement observed at 3 rpm. The DRX fraction initially increases then decreases with extrusion speed, peaking at 65% (4 rpm). At 5 rpm, excessive strain rate suppresses recrystallization, reducing the DRX fraction to 27.3%.Texture analysis reveals a transition from deformation textures (Copper and S') to recrystallization (Cube) and shear textures (Goss and T1) with increasing speed. Mechanical testing shows a maximum yield strength of 163 MPa at 3 rpm and a peak elongation of 19.94% at 4 rpm. Quantitative analysis confirms that strength improvements are primarily attributed to grain boundary and fine-grain strengthening, while DRX-induced softening contributes to enhanced ductility.
