How It Is / Comment C’est / Как ЭTо : Glosses for Beckett’s Darkest Novel

Abstract: Llewellyn Brown is the editor or author of three books and collections published by Minard in 2024 that all offer cogent commentaries of Beckett’s How It Is . In the first volume, the commentators have chosen to provide two glosses, one in French, one in English, that are not identical. The second book is a collection of twelve essays on How It Is written by well-known specialists. The last book by Brown focuses on the links between Dostoevsky and Beckett. These three books completely renew our understanding of Beckett’s darkest and most opaque novel.
