Multimodal droplet size distributions for induced jet decay with angled capillaries
As induced jet decay has manifold industrial applications, the expansion of its applicability to non-vertical jets as well as to jets of larger diameters was targeted. An evaluation method for multimodal droplet size distributions comprised of distinct, uniform droplet subpopulations was developed, enabling automated characterization of droplet chains containing satellite droplets. The measured droplet sizes and patterns were then categorized regarding their uniformity. Finally, the dimensionless wave numbers leading to controlled jet decay were calculated and compared to the usable wave number values described in the literature.
