Nasal Gene Expression in ART-Naive Adults with HIV and Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Uganda
This proof-of-concept study demonstrated that there were distinct nasal gene expression patterns associated with TB, not seen in blood. Differences in nasal gene expression in people with HIV who have TB disease, versus those without TB, highlight their potential as diagnostic biomarkers. Further validation studies of gene signatures using minimally invasive nasal samples are recommended in other difficult to diagnose groups.
