Mid-infrared motion deblurring via nonlinear structured gating

Coded exposure imaging has emerged as an effective strategy for motion deblurring, but conventional schemes based on mechanical shutters are constrained to binary coding and limited modulation speeds. We present a mid-infrared motion deblurring system that employs nonlinear structured gating through temporally modulated pump light in an upconversion process. This approach enables rapid temporal coding of dynamic infrared scenes, which transforms motion blur into a structured signal that preserves fine spatial details within a single exposure. By solving the inverse problem with a least-squares algorithm, sharp transient images of fast-moving objects are reconstructed. The system achieves flexible modulation frequencies up to 50 kHz and supports grayscale coding, providing a promising route to blur-free, high-fidelity visualization of infrared transient events.
