Sulfondiimidoyl-Containing Hypervalent Iodine(III) Compounds: Synthesis and Reactivity

N-Monosubstituted sulfondiimines react with methoxy(tosyloxy)iodobenzene (MTIB) to give unprecedented N-connected hypervalent iodine(III) compounds in high to excellent yields. The pure products are obtained by simple filtration of the reaction suspension after reaction times of 3-30 min. Broad variations of the sulfondiimine S-substituents are tolerated, and products with S,S-aryl, S,S-alkyl, and S-alkyl,S-aryl backbones can be prepared. The new compounds were tested in several organic transformations, aiming at uncovering their inherent reactivity profiles.
