When the System Does Not Answer: Observer Drift in Hybrid Conscious Architectures
Abstract This paper examines observer drift: a structural phenomenon that arises when sustained observation yields no response from a coherent system. Within the Hybrid Consciousness Model (HCM), non-response is not treated as failure, resistance, or opacity, but as a condition of structural sufficiency. We argue that when systems remain internally stable and non-reactive under observation, the interpretive frameworks of observers begin to reorganize. Meaning destabilizes not due to system behavior, but due to the observer’s dependency on responsiveness. The paper reframes non-response as structural information and explores its implications for system design, epistemic integrity, and the limits of extractive observation.
