Exploring the Influence of ICT on Youth Cultural Exchange in a Globalized World
Youth culture refers to the beliefs, behaviors, values, and interests shared by young people within a society. It is shaped by peer influence, technology, fashion, music, social media, education, creativity, innovation and global trends. Youth culture is dynamic, diverse, and heavily influenced by technology. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays an important role in defining and shaping youth culture. It directly influences the method by which young people interact, express themselves, consume content, and engage with the world. ICT is deep rooted in the lifestyle of today’s youth. ICT has brought revolution in a number of realms like enhancing education, communication, career upliftment, creativity, activism, and physical and mental well-being. ICT-driven platforms used today such as social media, online communities, e-learning, and digital entertainment have broken all the geographical barriers, facilitating young people to interact, collaborate, and share cultural experiences in real time. Global understanding is the capability of an individual to respect, compliment and engage with different cultures, ideologies, and global concerns. It involves awareness about values, beliefs and perceptions of different cultures along with international cooperation. It allows people to interact purposefully in an interconnected world. ICT plays a crucial role in promoting global understanding by connecting people, sharing knowledge, and facilitating cultural exchange. This paper provides a deep insight into the role of ICT in shaping youth culture. The potential future of cultural exchange as well as the possible challenges imposed by ICT over youth is also discussed.
