Development and Validation of the Syaja'ah Scale for Islamic Community Organizations: A Rasch Model Analysis
Islamic civil society organizations require the trait of syaja'ah in their members to act decisively, honestly, and responsibly when facing organizational challenges. However, this trait has not been consistently instilled among members of Indonesian Islamic civil society organizations. This study aims to develop a valid and reliable instrument for measuring syaja'ah using a psychometric approach based on the Rasch Model. A non-experimental quantitative approach was employed with 483 participants aged 18–40 who were actively involved in organizational activities. The 48-item instrument comprises four dimensions reconceptualized from Ibnu Miskawaih's classical thought: (1) Readiness to Assume Significant and Risky Responsibility, (2) Firmness in Difficult Situations, (3) Self and Emotional Control, and (4) Commitment to the Honor and Vision of the Organization, measured using a five-point Likert scale. Results showed that 37 items met the Rasch Model fit criteria, with raw variance explained of 27.5%. The instrument demonstrated excellent reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha of 0.94, item reliability of 0.91, and person reliability of 0.91. Thus, the developed syaja'ah instrument is valid and reliable for measuring syaja'ah among members of Islamic civil society organizations in Indonesia and can support character mapping, recruitment selection, and cadre development evaluation.
