The Impact of Some Economic Variables on Agricultural Unemployment in Egypt
The relationship between agricultural unemployment and sustainable development is substantial. as agricultural unemployment has a direct impact on the attainment of sustainable development objectives. The rise in agricultural unemployment in Egypt constitutes a significant obstacle to achieving sustainable development. particularly *Sustainable Development Goal 2030 (SDG) 1. which aims to end poverty and hunger. Accordingly. this study seeks to analyze the key economic variables influencing agricultural unemployment in Egypt over the period 2010–2023.The results indicate that agricultural unemployment is significantly affected by net agricultural income. agricultural investment. the inflation rate. population growth. political stability. and the level of technological advancement. Together. these variables account for approximately 83% of the variation in the agricultural unemployment rate. Empirical findings reveal that a 1% increase in net agricultural income. agricultural investment. population growth. and technological level leads to an increase in agricultural unemployment by 1.56%. 0.46%. 5.88%. and 0.04%. respectively. Conversely. a 1% increase in the inflation rate and political stability results in a reduction in agricultural unemployment by 0.57% and 0.25%. respectively. Based on these findings. the study recommends directing agricultural investments and net agricultural income toward the reclamation of new agricultural lands in order to generate employment opportunities and reduce unemployment. in addition to strengthening political stability.
