Christmas, the Sun, and the Future of Energy: A 2,000-Year Story
This op-ed explores a 2,000-year cultural and technological journey of light—from the solar symbolism of Dies Natalis Solis Invicti in ancient Rome to the spiritual meaning of Christmas, and finally to modern energy infrastructures. It traces how the victory of light over darkness evolved from ritual to engineering, culminating in projects like Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP) and orbital solar farms. Through historical continuity and futuristic innovation, the article argues that light remains a unifying axis for civilization—shifting from myth to technology, from hope to infrastructure. The conclusion calls for integrating tradition and innovation to preserve light as both a cultural symbol and a planetary resource.
