SERUM LEVEL OF CIRCADIAN PROTEINS BMAL1 AND PERIOD2 IN PATIENTS WITH RENAL TRANSPLANTATION AND ITS RELATION TO GRAFT FUNCTION

INTRODUCTIONRenal transplantation is widely accepted as the most effective form of renal replacement therapy. The central clock of the circadian network is found in the superchiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the anterior hypothalamus.SCN neurons receive both direct and indirect input from external trigers mostly day-night cycles which in turn, manage widely distributed peripheral clocksThe circadian clock (CC) is composed from many genes. The circadian locomotor output cycles kaput (CLOCK), and brain and muscle Arnt-like protein 1 (BMAL1); the stimulator, three Period (PER1, PER2 and PER3) and two Cryptochromes (CRY1 and 2) molecules the suppressors.AIM OF THE WORKThis study aimed to evaluate the serum levels of the circadian proteins BMAL1 and PERIOD2 in patients who have undergone renal transplantation and to investigate their potential association with graft function.SUBJECTSThe study included 45 subjects who were divided into 3 groups each 15. Group I: Renal transplant recipients (RTR) with stable renal function. Group II: RTR with chronic allograft dysfunction (CAD). Group III: Healthy control subjects.Exclusion Criteria: Patients with chronic diseases such as chronic liver disease, diabetes mellitus, connective tissue diseases or other autoimmune diseases, any kind of malignancy, hematological malignancies, cardiac, respiratory diseases, the intake of drugs other than the immunosuppressive drugs that can affect the total white count, will be excluded.
