Quantum Oncotheology: A Theoretical Framework Integrating Quantum Theory, Religious Healing Traditions, and Oncology
Cancer remains one of humanity's most devastating diagnoses, claiming nearly 10 million lives annually while generating profound existential and spiritual questions that neither purely biomedical nor traditional theological frameworks adequately address. Building upon the foundational Oncotheology framework (Pokorny, 2026), this doctoral dissertation establishes Quantum Oncotheology as a novel interdisciplinary field systematically investigating cancer through the integrated lens of quantum physics, religious healing traditions, and psychoneuroimmunological mechanisms. Employing a hermeneutical-phenomenological methodology with cross-traditional comparative analysis, this study examined sacred texts, theological treatises, and healing traditions across seven major religious traditions—Judeo-Christian, Buddhist/Tibetan Tantric, Hindu/Ayurvedic-Vedic, Taoist/Chinese Medicine, Islamic, African Traditional, and Native American spirituality—analyzing their healing concepts in dialogue with quantum biological phenomena including biophoton emission, quantum coherence, entanglement, and non-locality. Analysis of 1,247 sacred text passages revealed 423 distinct quantum-theological correspondences mapping points of meaningful resonance between theological healing concepts and quantum biological mechanisms. Eight emergent universal themes were identified across all traditions: quantum coherence and spiritual wholeness, entanglement and interconnected healing, observer consciousness and intentional transformation, biophotons and divine light imagery, non-locality and transcendent presence, wave-particle duality and the nature of being, quantum tunneling and spiritual breakthrough, and zero-point energy and vital life force. From these findings, an integrated Five-Domain Quantum Oncotheology theoretical model was developed, positioning quantum-informed theological understanding as a complementary framework for comprehending cancer as simultaneously a biological, quantum, and spiritual phenomenon. The framework demonstrates systematic alignment with all ten Hallmarks of Cancer while proposing quantum-mediated mechanisms through which spiritual practices may influence cellular coherence via psychoneuroimmunological pathways. This research contributes to theology, quantum physics, oncology, psychoneuroimmunology, and complementary integrative medicine by demonstrating the theoretical viability of quantum-theological integration for enhancing holistic cancer care without replacing conventional biomedical treatment.
