Stepwise coordination of {Cu(C 5 Me 5 )} with a tri-silylated Ge 9 cluster

A stepwise reaction between [Ge9Hyp3]- and CuI/K(C5Me5) yielded the {Ge9Hyp3} hybridized double-decker sandwich cluster [{Cu(C5Me5)}2(η3:η3-Ge9Hyp3)]- (2) <i>via</i> [Cu(C5Me5)(η3-Ge9Hyp3)]- (1) as an intermediate. The controllable coordination of {Cu(C5Me5)} on the tri-silylated Ge9 cluster in this work contributes to the rational design and synthesis, and eventually the application of silylated Ge9 based catalysts.
