The distribution of General and Spinal anesthesia in elective cesarian section among primigravida females in Dakahlia governorate in the last 5 years between (2018 & 2023)
Background. Cesarean section rates have increased reaching 21% today all over the world surpassing the ideal range which is 10-15% according to the WHO, even in Egypt its sky rocketed from 52% in 2014 to 72% in 2021 according to the Egypt family health survey. Methods This observational study involved 50 participants who underwent elective cesarean sections in the past five years. Data was collected by using a questionnaire we made consisting of three parts: demographic question part, prevalence question part & satisfaction part by using bauer questionnaire [1]. Results During the study period, we found that n=11 (22%) underwent general anesthesia during CS and n =39 (78%) underwent spinal anesthesia, the most frequent reasons for anesthesia related discomfort was shivering, feeling cold, confusion and disorientation, nausea and vomiting and pain at the site of surgery. all participants reported being satisfied with different aspects of anesthesia with 60% satisfaction being the lowest and reaching 90% satisfaction in a few questions with above 80% recommending this anesthetic service to friends and family. Conclusion Prevenance of spinal anesthesia overpowers that of general anesthesia by almost 4 times in the area while satisfaction was high it still could have been higher like the levels of other centers. Hospitals need to improve the post operative pain therapy , introducing a way to encourage patients to learn and ask more about the operation, better their monitoring of the hydration and temperature of the patient ,Also it will be a major step up by introducing (ERAS) enhanced recovery after surgery protocols for elective CS.Categories: Anesthesiology, Obstetrics/Gynecology.
