Experimental and Numerical Investigation on Mechanical Properties of Rock-Filled Concrete

Currently, there is no established standard for calculating the mechanical properties of rock-filled concrete (RFC), which are typically determined through large-scale tests. However, these tests are costly and challenging, making widespread implementation impractical. Therefore, based on the experimental results of an RFC engineering project, this paper established a 3D mesoscale model of RFC measuring 2000 mm × 2000 mm × 2000 mm to simulate the compressive strength and elastic modulus of RFC. The simulation clarified the mesoscale failure process of RFC and revealed the size-dependent variation in its strength. Through comparison with experimental results, the accuracy of the mesoscale simulation results was verified, demonstrating the potential of numerical simulation as a cost-effective and efficient method for estimating the mechanical properties of RFC.
