The Relation between Serum Estradiol (E2) Level and Success rate of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection
Background: Advancements in reproductive procedures require an understanding of different factors influencing in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) outcomes. Objective: The study objective is to evaluate the impact of serum estradiol (E2) levels and fertilization rates (FR) on the success of ICSI in infertile women. Methods: The study included 80 women with infertility classified into two equal treatment groups according to pregnancy outcomes: group (1) 40 women represented women who are get pregnant and (2) 40 women represent those who are still non-pregnant. Serum Estradiol (E2) levels were measured at the time of ovum pickup and at day 3 of the cycle preceding ovarian stimulation. Results: We observed that follicular size, serum E2, luteinizing hormone, and anti-Mullerian hormone test were greater in group (1) compared to group (2) with statistically significant difference (p = 0.041, 0.001, 0.016, and 0.032), respectively. Correlation between serum E2 and inhibin A showed weak significant difference (p = 0.049 & 0.048) in group (1) and (2), respectively, while serum E2 showed insignificant negative correlation with activin A in group 1 (p = 0.198) and highly significant negative correlation in group 2 (p = 0.001). This reflects the positive effect of serum E2 on fertilization rate. Conclusion: Serum E2 levels were higher in women who get pregnant than that who did not pregnant. A higher fertilization rate was positively correlated with serum E2 levels.
