Do Sonication Results of Mobile Parts Predict Failure After Debridement and Implant Retention in Acute Periprosthetic Joint Infection?
In 57 periprosthetic joint infections with presumed acute presentations, the 2-year successful outcomes of debridement and implant retention were 64% (when sonication results revealed <1000 cfu/mL) and 21% (≥1000 cfu/mL). The odds for failure were 5.2 (<i>P</i> < .01) when the sonication result reported ≥1000 cfu/mL.
