The Impact of Balady Bread Fortified with Pomegranate Peel Powder on Nrf2 Signaling Related to Inflammatory and Mineral Status
Background: One of the most prevalent and significant health issues that cultures are currently dealing with is obesity. It causes a lot of ailments and is linked to an excessive buildup of adipose tissue. The purpose of this study is to examine how balady bread enhanced with pomegranate peel powder (PPP) affects obese rats. Materials and Method: After inducing obesity by high fat high sucrose (HFHS) diet (30%fat, 40% sucrose) for 3 months, rats were spilt up into four groups (n=8) for four weeks. Group 1: Healthy rats (Negative control), rats were fed on a balanced diet. Group 2: Obese rats (Positive control), rats were fed on HFHS diet. Group 3: Obese rats were fed on a balanced diet, with balady bread fortified with 2.5% PPP. Group 4: Obese rats were fed on a balanced diet, with balady bread fortified with 7.5% PPP. Results: Feeding balady bread fortified with PPP demonstrated the ameliorative effect on glucose hemostasis, lipids profile, oxidant and anti-oxidant markers, leptin and ghrelin hormone, minerals and gene expression nuclear factor erythroid 2- related factor (Nrf2). This was evident through the modulation of biochemical and anthropometric measurements. Conclusion: the results suggested a potential effect of fortified bread on management of obesity and many disturbances.
