FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF ASPIRIN TABLETS USING DIFFERENT BINDERS: A COMPARATIVE STUDY

The study focuses on the formulation and evaluation of aspirin tablets using different binders, including Acacia, Tragacanth, Povidone, HPMC, SCMC, and Sodium Alginate, through wet granulation. The impact of binder concentration (0.5%) on tablet characteristics such as disintegration time, hardness, friability, weight variation, and drug release was analyzed. The aspirin granules were evaluated for bulk density, flow properties, and compressibility index. Drug content was determined using a standard assay, with formulations showing drug release ranging from 35% to 121%. Among all the formulations, Povidone showed the fastest disintegration time (1 min 58 sec) and the highest drug release (121.91%). The study concludes that all binders demonstrated suitability for tablet formulation at the utilized concentration, but drug release could be further optimized by adjusting formulation factors.
