Association of Dynamic Knee Valgus with Foot Posture, Pain, and Balance in Non-Athletic Adults with Chronic Ankle Instability.

[Purpose] The purpose of the study was to identify if there is a relationship between frontal plane projection angle (FPPA) as a measure of dynamic knee valgus (DKV) with foot posture, pain, and dynamic balance in CAI patients. [Participants and Methods]: Eighty-Four nonathletic participants with CAI participated in this study. FPPA, foot posture, pain, and dynamic balance were measured using 2-dimensional (2D) video with kinovea analysis, foot posture index (FPI), numerical rating scale (NRS-11), and modified star excursion balance test (MSEBT) respectively. Pearson Correlation Coefficient was conducted to determine the correlation between FPPA, FPI, NRS-11, and MSEBT. [Study design] A Cross-sectional study. Results: The mean FPPA was 11.75 ± 7.29 degrees, with values ranging from 1.55 to 32.57 degrees. The mean FPI was 6.59 ± 2.16. Pain had a mean score of 4.38 ± 2.11. In MSEBT, mean normalized reach scores were highest in the anterior direction (A) 60.15 ± 8.66%, followed by posteromedial (PM) 59.84 ± 9.61% and posterolateral (PL) 56.16 ± 11.03%. The composite score averaged 58.64 ± 8.84%. Conclusion: this study revealed no significant correlation between FPPA, foot posture, pain, and dynamic balance in CAI non-athletic patients. Keywords:Chronic ankle instability, frontal plane projection angle, foot posture, non-athletes.
