Quality of Life among Renal Transplant Patients.

Background: Renal transplantation significantly improves survival and physiological functioning in patients with End-Stage Renal Disease, yet it introduces new challenges that can impact patients’ daily lives. Beyond medical outcomes such as graft survival and biochemical parameters. patients’ Quality of Life has emerged as a crucial measure of post-transplant success. Aim: This study was conducted to assess quality of life for renal transplant patients Research design: Descriptive research design was utilized Setting: The study was conducted at Outpatients Clinic for follow-up kidney transplantation affiliated to Nasser Institute Hospital for Treatment and Research Sample Type: A Purposive sample of 100 transplanted patients of both sexes. Tools: Two tools were used for data collection tool I: A structured Interviewing questionnaire included Part I: sociodemographic characteristics about renal transplanted patients, Part II: Patients` medical history (past & present) history, Part III: knowledge about renal transplantation. Tool II: To assess the quality of life among renal transplant patients. Results:69.0% of renal transplanted patients were aged between 21 and <31 years, with a mean age of 29.71 ±5.33 years. Females predominated the sample, representing 85.0%, while males constituted. Conclusion: More than one fifth of studied patients had a good level of knowledge related to renal transplantation, nearly half of them had an average level of knowledge and one third of studied patients had poor knowledge. Regarding total quality of life, nearly one fifth of studied patients had average level of quality of life and nearly three quarters of them had poor level of quality of life, while one tenth of them had good level. There was a statistically significant relation between total knowledge level and total quality of life among the renal transplantation patients. Recommendation: Educational program should be integrated in providing continuous care and follow-ups for renal transplantation patients.
