Cytotoxic action of pyocyanin extraction from pseudomonas aeruginosa on human Colorectal (SW480) cell line
A total of 50 bacterial isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were collected from wound patients. The isolated bacterial colonies were identified based on their morphological characteristics and biochemical tests including, oxidase and catalase tests, and were further confirmed as P. aeruginosa using the VITEK 2-Compact system. Pyocyanin was extracted from P. aeruginosa after culturing on cetrimide agar and purified by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Pyocyanin at concentrations of (12.5, 25, 50, 100, 200 and 400 μg/mL) increased apoptosis in the human colorectal cancer cell line (SW480) in a concentration-dependent manner, while showing little effect on the control cells.A total of 50 bacterial isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were collected from wound patients.
