Integration between planting methods and weed control treatments and their effect on the performance of some bread wheat cultivars
A field experiment was conducted during the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 growing seasons at Mallawy Agricultural Research Station, Egypt, to evaluate the effect of integrating three planting methods (broadcast, furrows, and raised beds) with four weed control treatments (Pallas, Rondo + Traxsos, hand weeding twice, and an untreated control) on yield and yield components of three bread wheat cultivars (Sids 14, Giza 171, and Sakha 95). The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The results showed that planting Afir in raised beds achieved the lowest dry weight of weeds (g m⁻²) in both seasons. The highest reduction in the dry weight of weeds was achieved by using (Rondo + Traxsos) in the two growing seasons. Cultivar Sids 14 showed the lowest dry weight of weeds in both seasons and gave the highest cultivar competitive ability (CAC %). The best interaction between all studied factors which gave the highest weed control and achieved the best wheat yield and its components was raised beds method with cultivar Sids 14 and using herbicide Rondo + Traxsos. The economic evaluation of the results from the integration between raised beds with cultivars Sids 14 and Giza 171 under using the herbicides Rondo + Traxsos gave the highest economic values in the average of two seasons. From the results, it can be recommended to plant Afir in raised beds method and control weeds by using herbicides Rondo followed by Traxsos with wheat cultivar Sids 14 for produce the highest wheat grain yield and its components.
