Insect Fauna of Arboretums in the Southern Region of Korea

This study investigated the insect fauna associated with flowering plants in arboretums located in the southern region of South Korea to support biodiversity conservation and management strategies. Field surveys were conducted at Halla Arboretum (Jeju-si) and Wando Arboretum (Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do) on three occasions between June and October. Plant-visiting insects were surveyed using sweep nets and direct observations, and their host plants were recorded concurrently. A total of 152 insect species belonging to 64 families were identified at 21 plant species in Halla Arboretum. In Wando Arboretum, 103 insect species from 51 families were recorded at 19 plant species. Multivariate analyses (PERMANOVA and NMDS) revealed no significant differences in insect community composition depending on the survey location and period. These results provide baseline data for understanding plant-insect interactions in arboretums and contribute to developing effective biodiversity management strategies in the southern region of South Korea.
