Effect of Applying Care Bundle on Breastfeeding Problems among Women in Postnatal period

Background: Most of breastfeeding problems can be prevented through identification and application of appropriate preventive measures of care bundle related to breastfeeding which incorporating the available evidence-based interventions. Aim: To evaluate effect of applying care bundle on breastfeeding problems among women in postnatal period. Method: A quasi-experimental (study and control group) design was adopted. The study was carried out at outpatient clinics & postnatal unit of obstetrics and gynecology department in Port Said city at Dar Sehat El-maraa Hospital which affiliated to General Authority of Health Care.A purposive sample of 200 women were recruited in the study according to the eligibility criteria and assigned into two equal groups (100 each) based on equation for calculating sample size. Four tools were used to collect relevant data: A structured interviewing schedule sheet, LATCH breastfeeding assessment tool, modified REEDA Scale, and six-points engorgement scale. Results: All of the studied women reported less breastfeeding problems, and more than half of the mothers in the study group practiced exclusive breastfeeding compared to only 34.0% in the control group. This difference was highly statistically significant (p = 0.006). Conclusion:When comparing puerperal moms in the study group to those in the control group, the current study found a highly significant decrease in breastfeeding difficulties and an improvement in infant feeding behavior. Therefore, it was discovered that using the care bundle was an efficient nonpharmacological way to improve infant feeding behavior in puerperal women and reduce breast engorgement and other problems Recommendations: In order to alleviate symptoms of breastfeeding difficulties and enhance infant feeding behavior, nurses should get training in the application of care bundles as part of their discharge teaching plan for puerperal moms.
