EMBL–EBI’s AMR portal: a new gateway in global antimicrobial resistance research

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is recognised by WHO as one of the top ten global health threats. According to WHO’s Global Antibiotic Resistance Surveillance Report 2025, approximately one in every six confirmed common bacterial infections worldwide is resistant to antibiotic treatment, with the greatest burden in low-income and middle-income countries and settings with low laboratory capacity.
