Isolation, identification and antibiogram profile of multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa from clinical specimens in Al-Bayda city (Libya)
The prevalence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa as a nosocomial bacterium has risen, albeit there are significant differences amongst hospitals. The current study aimed to detect, identify, and study the antibiogram profile of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from clinical specimens in Al-Bayda city (Libya). One hundred sixty-two specimens were taken over the course of a year (January 2024–December 2024) from urine, oral, pus, blood, stool and high vaginal swab specimens. We used API20E to confirm the species-level identification of the selected bacterial isolate, which had previously undergone conventional recognition. 90% of P. aeruginosa isolates were from urine specimens. 29.6% of the population was male, and 70.4% was female. P. aeruginosa exhibited a high rate of ampicillin resistance, followed by vancomycin, and a high rate of azithromycin susceptibility, followed by meropenem. Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection and gender exhibited a statistically significant impact, whereas drug-induced death and age had no appreciable impact. Antimicrobial agents are becoming less effective due to the prevalence of resistant bacteria brought on by antibiotic overuse, patient noncompliance, and poor health
